Did I say this was supposed to be monthly? Whoops. Inside: A New Title, COVER REVEAL, and Pre-Order Links!
Hello, lovelies!
I don’t know about you. But this summer has FLOWN by. This was my daughter’s last summer before Kindergarten, and we spent it in the best way possible: visiting family and friends, having adventures near (Smithsonian trips! the local Nature Preserve!), far (our annual road trip to Ohio!) and in-between (Philly! the Jersey Shore!). I saw Taylor Swift with my bestest internet mom friends and I got a new tattoo! I snuggled two new baby girls and told them that Aunt Jenny is going to be their BFF from now on. I had my author photos taken by my sweet friend Daria, was able to give my friend Claire a hug in person at her latest book signing, and spent long, lazy afternoons reading in my second-favorite summer purchase: a camping hammock from the Aldi around the corner. My garden exploded with color. We also spent many, many days splashing in our local city pools. It was great. It was exhausting. I am so happy. My cup is full.
On the book front, things are starting to get real. Like, really, really real. I went through another round of developmental edits, then copyedits, and then just about a week ago I was able to see PASS PAGES (that’s the book, all formatted the way it’s going to be when it’s a real book). It’s starting to sink in that it’s going to be on its way to you very, very soon.
Oh. And the title changed since we last talked! The book formerly known as A MODERN GIRL’S GUIDE TO MURDER will be published as A DEADLY ENDEAVOR and I, for one, am jazzed.
I also have a COVER. And it is BEAUTIFUL. Do you want to see it?
Who am I kidding. Of course you do.
Cover Reveal
There she is! I am in love with the colors, the art deco details…and the SKULLS. I am 10000% prepared to make the skulls a key part of my personality moving forward. Just so everyone is warned.
Seriously though, the team at Crooked Lane—and especially the designer, Jessica Khoury—did an absolutely incredible job. I’m so lucky that this gorgeous cover is going to be on my book…on a shelf…exactly six months from today. And did you know you can pre-order it now?
Pre-Orders:
Pre-orders are SO vital for any author, but especially for debuts! They let our publishers know how many books should be printed and show the powers that be that we deserve ALL of the marketing support and also that they should publish more of our books. There are two ways that you can pre-order A DEADLY ENDEAVOR:
An unsigned copy via a retailer of your choice. PRH has kindly gathered the most likely culprits at this link, but I encourage you to order it from your local independent bookseller. Don’t know where your closest bookstore is? Find it here.
And you didn’t think I’d let this occasion pass without offering some swag, did you? Anyone in the US who pre-orders or puts in a library request can fill out this form to receive a thank you gift, which includes a sticker, bookmark, signed bookplate, and a thank you note from yours truly. The stickers are super cool, if I do say so myself.
What I’ve been…
Watching: Jury Duty. I was not expecting this to be so delightful. And it is DELIGHTFUL. The premise is bananas – it’s a documentary about jury duty, and everyone on it is an actor except for one guy…who has no idea it’s all staged.
Reading: I’ve read two really wonderful romances in the last few weeks that just feel so relatable to my elder millennial self. RENT TO BE is available now. HANNAH TATE, BEYOND REPAIR will be out in February and is available for pre-order now! Two other books that I loved that are now available for pre-order: THE MISARRANGEMENT OF SANA SAEED, out this October, and THE MAYOR OF MAXWELL STREET!1
Listening to: I’m obsessed with the Folk Pop playlist on Spotify. I also have been listening to the Dead Blondes episodes of You Must Remember This as I start planning out what I HOPE will become Edie #2!
That’s all for now. I can’t wait to hear what you think of the cover – let me know!
