Happy March! It’s my birthday month and spring is right around the corner…and now spring is officially my favorite season, since my debut historical mystery, A MODERN GIRL’S GUIDE TO MURDER, will release Spring 2024 from Crooked Lane Books! This month, I’ll share some answers to questions I’ve gotten about my debut(!!!), share what I’ve been reading, watching, and listening to, and introduce my monthly Q&A.
I’ll be sharing more about the book soon in my future newsletters as information becomes available! Stay tuned! I’m so excited to share Edie and Gilbert with the world!
book(ish) is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
Wait. Haven’t you always written YA?
Yes! I do! And I’m still looking for homes for my Young Adult books and working on new ones. A MODERN GIRL’S GUIDE TO MURDER is a departure for me—my first book geared for adult readers instead of teens, and my characters are in their 20s, and dealing with more grown-up problems and mature themes. It’s a love letter to our years in Philadelphia (our former neighborhood has a big cameo!) and a nod to my love of shows like Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Babylon Berlin, and Veronica Mars and the piles and piles of murder mysteries I devoured in college—not to mention my lifelong love affair with Nancy Drew. I’m so excited to have found a home at Crooked Lane with so many other incredible mysteries—I’m pinching myself.
So when can we buy it?
Stay tuned!! I’ll be sure to all updates as soon as I’m able to! In the meantime, you can add it to your tbr:
March Roundup
What I’ve been reading:
In the adult space, I devoured Kim Giarratano’s DEATH OF A DANCING QUEEN – a whipsmart, fast-paced mystery that filled a Veronica Mars-sized spot in my soul. In YA, I loved my friend Jenna’s OUT OF CHARACTER, a queer, fat-positive romance about a girl obsessed with her online role-play group…and the impact it has on her every day life. In MG, SAINT IVY: KIND AT ALL COSTS is a really wonderful story about a middle schooler desperate to be kind…but when her mom becomes a surrogate for another family, has to deal with the feelings it brings to the surface.
What I’ve been watching:
Daisy Jones and the Six, Abbott Elementary, and forever reruns of New Girl and Bob’s Burgers. Also, being the mom to a 4 year old means I’m super well-versed in PBS Kids shows 😅
What I’ve been listening to:
Daisy Jones and the Six. Book Lovers. Lots and lots of movie soundtracks as I pick away at my new WIP.
What I’ve been working on:
I’m working on a new YA fantasy! Drafting is slow, and messy, but it’s fun and there’s always so much potential in a first draft. I can’t wait to see where it goes!
